New Year’s Resolutions
Offer grand solutions.
If only they would stay
For longer than a day.
“I will . . ” I say on New Year’s night
In two days that becomes “I might . .”
And in a month – it makes me mad –
I’ll often say “I wish I had. . .”
Appallingly late for breakfast
We tried not to let it affect us.
But their omelets are cold
And the gossip is old
So we said ‘next time just text us’.
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he
He called for his pipe, he called for his bowl
And he called for his big screen TV.
As he puffed on his pipe and he watched TV
He was almost a merry old soul
But he said out loud “This puzzles me –
Why the heck did I ask for this bowl?”
