Florence, Italy – The Famous “Old Bridge”

Spanning the Arno River, the Ponte Vecchio (“Old Bridge) – or some earlier version of it (several rebuilds) – has existed on this spot since early Roman times.  It was the only bridge not destroyed by the German army in its retreat from Italy in WWII.  (This was apparently by express orders from Hitler.)  Taken in May 2003.
